My favourite sport person is Andre DeGrasse and favourite sport is track and field. I went to the paralympics in London and the panam games in Toronto.
I like watching Hockey Sport game, and the rules of the ice hockey are:
The game starts in the centre circle with a face off.
Players may use physical force to win the puck off their opponent.
Players who are imposed to have committed a minor penalty will be ordered to leave the ice for two minutes and their team play with 5 players for that duration.
There are only two basic rules in ice hockey:
Offside: If an attacking player enters the opposition’s defending zone (marked by the blue line) ahead of the puck, and then he or she will be called offside. If this happens, play will be halted and a face-off will take place in the neutral zone.
My favourite hockey players are Auston Mathews (the centre man) in Maple Leaf hockey team and Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh hockey team because they always get highest scores. I think they are the best.
I am biased but my favourite sport to watch is not that very popular because it is not that well known in North America. Although big in Eastern Europe, Spain and Italy as well as California and Ivy League universities in the US, it is relatively unknown in Canada.
Waterpolo is played like hockey or soccer. A team consists of 6 players and a goalie.A game is played over 4 quarters of 7 or 8minutes.It is a very physical game as you have to stay afloat, swim , pass and dodge other players that try to get a volleyball size ball away from you. It is so exciting to view.
My favourite player is my younger sister, Madeleine..She has been playing since the age of about 8. She has represented Team Ontario twice, she has a national championship one year ago from Major League in Canada and she was co-captain of the varsity team last year at Queen’s University .
For the past couple of days, we have focused on the NBA and the NHL and when their seasons will resume. There are obviously many other sports that have been suspended as well, including the most famous sporting event; the Olympics!
What is your favourite sport to watch? Why do you enjoy watching? (i.e. is it impressive? is it easy to follow? what are the rules?)
Who is your favourite athlete to watch in this sport? Why are they your favourite? (are they the best? do they have good sportsmanship? are they the best to watch?)
The NHL suspended its season right after the NBA, on March 12th due to the Coronavirus pandemic. There are many talks happening right now about how the teams and the players will return, and it seems that the league is opting for a phased-plan approach. The NHL is being extra cautious, as five players from the Ottawa Senators and three from the Colorado Avalanche are known to have tested positive for COVID-19.
The league released the Phased Return to Sport Protocol, and it overviews the different phases for which the teams and players will go through before returning to games. The first phase outlines that a maximum of six players and a limited number of coaching staff will be able to use facilities for training at a time. This phase is meant to start in early June, and there will be testing done for the players who want to train at facilities.
The next phase is still being debated, but what has been agreed upon is a 24-team league, in a playoff format. The normal number of teams in the playoffs is 16, so this would mean that there would be more playoff games. The good news is that if this happens, six of the seven Canadian teams in the NHL (excluding Ottawa) will make the playoffs.
Here are the Eastern and Western Conferences, with the teams that would remain in the playoffs once the league resumes:
Eastern Conference playoff seeds
1. Boston Bruins* (top overall seed) 2. Tampa Bay Lightning* 3. Washington Capitals* 4. Philadelphia Flyers* 5. Pittsburgh Penguins 6. Carolina Hurricanes 7. New York Islanders 8. Toronto Maple Leafs 9. Columbus Blue Jackets 10. Florida Panthers 11. New York Rangers 12. Montreal Canadiens

Here is the first round of the playoffs and the teams that would be playing against each other:

Adam will be going into more detail about the NHL today on our call!!
Today on the class call Adam will be talking to us about the NBA! We will discuss what is happening with the league now, its suspension and what plans are for restarting the season. Adam will also go into detail about the history of basketball, and past and present star players.
Since early March of this year, the NBA has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Basketball fans are eager for its return, and recently some plans have been put forward for the league to start again. The plan that is now is discussion is having the season continue at Walt Disney World in Florida. More specifically, at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex, which has already hosted the Junior NBA World Championship.
The Raptors have begun training again at the OVO Athletic Centre in Toronto. There are strict guidelines that the team will have to follow, including only having one player and one coach allowed in the building at a time. At the OVO Athletic Centre they are able to practice shooting and other activities which they may not be able to practice at home. Otherwise the players have conditioning equipment i.e. weights in their homes.
Although there are plans for starting the league again, nothing is set in stone. Here is a video about the NBA being hosted at Walt Disney World’s ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex and future plans for the league:
Greek mythology is based on stories, all with different lessons and outcomes. These stories are very interconnected, and often somewhat complex, but they are significant in understanding the beliefs the ancient Greeks.
Titanomachy (Battle of the Titans):
This a central story to Greek mythology, and it explains the war between the Titans and the Olympians which lasted 10 years. The Titans were an older generation of Gods, and they were the ruling Gods until this war. The Titans were the children of the earliest Gods, who were Uranus (Sky) and Gaea (Earth). There were twelve Titans, which included: Oceanus, Tethys, Hyperion, Theia, Coeus, Phoebe, Cronus (Zeus’ father), Rhea (Zeus’ mother), Mnemosyne, Themus, Crius and Iapetus.
The war ended once Zeus was able to overthrow his father, Cronus, who was the King of the Gods. This made Zeus the King of the Gods, and the Olympians took over ruling the world. The Titans were sent to the underworld, and the Olympians ruled from Mount Olympus.
In Greek Mythology, Midas was the king of Phrygia and ruled from his castle and its beautiful garden in which he had a magnificent Rose Garden. One day, some of Midas’ people found a drunken old man near the garden and brought him before the king. Midas recognized the old man, who was god Dionysus’ closest reveler, the satyr Silenus. Instead of punishing him, Midas hosted the satyr for ten days, offering him food, drinks and entertaining him. When he returned him safely to Dionysus, the god felt gratitude and offered Midas to grant him any wish he had. Midas, motivated by his greed, asked that he should be able to turn into gold everything he touched. At first, Midas gained great wealth and power from his unique ability. But he later realized that it was more of a curse than a gift. Even the water and the food that he touched was turning into gold. He could not enjoy even the simplest joys in life anymore. Midas went back to Dionysus and begged him to take back his power.

The Amazons:
The Amazons were a tribe of women who were extremely advanced in warfare. They rode horses and used different weaponry such as bow and arrows, swords, and spears. They were usually fighting against men who tried to disrupt the harmony of the tribe, and they often came out victorious. They are described as being attractive and desirable but also deadly. Does this remind you of a particular movie?

The story of Athena:
Athena is the daughter of Zeus, and she is also one of the Olympians. Zeus had been told that he was cursed and that eventually one of his sons would dethrone him. When Zeus found out that Metis was pregnant with Zeus’ child, he swallowed her in order to prevent her from giving birth. Over time, Zeus developed a crippling headache, and the solution was to split his head open. When this was done, Athena came out of Zeus’ head fully grown, and dressed in full armour. Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and War.
Ancient Greek mythology gave explanation and meaning to the world that people saw around them. The earliest written origin story of Greek mythology came around 700 BC, but prior to this all Greek mythology was told orally. These stories included Gods and Goddesses, and heroes and monsters, and they were an important part of everyday life. They explained everything from religious ritual to the weather, and therefore it was a major belief system in Ancient Greece.
The Olympians
At the centre of Greek mythology are the twelve Olympians, who were said to rule from the top of Mount Olympus, which is the highest mountain in Greece. They were the deities that the Greeks believed in, and each of them control different elements of the world.
Here is a list of the twelve Greek Olympians:
Zeus (Jupiter, in Roman mythology): the king of all the gods (and father to many) and god of weather, law and fate
Hera (Juno): the queen of the gods and goddess of women and marriage
Aphrodite (Venus): goddess of beauty and love
Apollo (Apollo): god of prophesy, music and poetry and knowledge
Ares (Mars): god of war
Artemis (Diana): goddess of hunting, animals and childbirth
Athena (Minerva): goddess of wisdom and defense
Demeter (Ceres): goddess of agriculture and grain
Dionysus (Bacchus): god of wine, pleasure and festivity
Hephaestus (Vulcan): god of fire, metalworking and sculpture
Hermes (Mercury): god of travel, hospitality and trade and Zeus’s personal messenger
